Little Lost Ship by rushedart Little Lost Ship by rushedart
Ok another one using some old models. This one is related to that series of Balmung images I was suppose to do over time, but never did. oops.
Well looking at these ships I am itching to rebuild the poor Balmung. She is one of my first completed models. I think it dates all the way back to 2006. And boy does she show it.

I might mess with this a bit more and produce a v2 mostly because the paint effects could be worked a bit more. I just do not feel like painting anymore and well it is LATE and this image has already been delayed enough already.

MKF's Connie came out before the first jj trek film. Its his interpretation and imho, one of the best out there.

A really imaginative image, and well depicted. Forgive my ignorance, but I am confused on one point. I have not followed the Abramsverse as depicted in the Star Trek movie as I thought the Constitution Class depiction was the most hidious miscarage of a Starship I have seen. Now I have seen several depictions of what I took to be a Constitution Class on this forum. They one thing they all seem to have in common a cowl like shroud over the front of the nacelle. Now your ship has that in common and I am wondering if it is a redesign of the Constitution Class from TOS or a reinterprataion of the Abramsverse Enterprise.

As mentioned by Kirtemor I modeled this prior to the film release. I started this when we heard about a overhaul redesign and right after the teaser trailer released only showing bits of the ship. At that point I do not think any of us thought the ship had these cowlings. Really I suspect the film pinched ideas from the work done by Gabe Köerner. Many aspects such as the nacelles, the set back neck etc were on his V1 ship. I think most of the work appeared around 07 early 08. My reboot the original model was early 08. I can only think of him as the originator of the larger bussard end nacelle idea. At the time a lot of people were doing tapered nacelles on TNG ships as most of the workings were just aft of the bussards, so it made a lot of sense.

Other than this reimagine and the update I started in 2013 the only JJverse related ship I ever built was a attempt to use the styling ques from the films to make a ship that was not so awkward looking. I do not think any images survive on the net of the WIP progress on that one. Other than that one model nothing else I do has anything to do with the JJ trek universe.

so is the balmung an early 23rd century ship? and is that version of the Constitution the base version or a refit of this universe's Constitution class

Balmung predates the Ambassador by a few years. I do not recall the whole back story I made up for it as it has been a long time since and I have lost much of that information over the years. The connie is my reimagined connie that is suppose to represent TOS era. So it could be considered to be pre TMP refit. KIM the connie by the time TMP came around likely had multiple refits.

ah cool and I  once again said the wrong time frame lol but anyway yeah that's why i ask a refit instead of Constitution refit since it's so easy to confuse the meaning, and I feel your pain on information lost and probably recreating it wont feel the same .

3ds max with Mental Ray (all in the app no ext filters or plugs) then I composite in Photoshop and sometimes After Effects for some filters. Sometimes I use a paint app called Paint Tool SAI, this image I used it to paint in the damage and some of the smoke. Only filter I used in the image that is not packaged as default in PS is the main flare and that is a red giant filter. (you can probably find better pre-rendered flares online though)

So, Which Ship is lost? Because by the end of VOG they are both pretty out of date.

VOY has nothing to do with this image. The Balmung is the one that is out of it's timeframe.

I always liked the Balmung, a mix of Ambassador and Excelsior the lost gap, she sure looks great.

Looks great. Is she a Luna Class? She really gives off a Luna style. Really like it, can't wait to see what you end up with after you work on her a bit.

Dunno which ship your refering to the Luna class I know is the USS Titan and is from a completely different era. The Balmung (if this is the one your asking about) predates the Ambassador class by a few decades. I forgot what class name I gave it, It was something Norse though, Branstock or Volsung class. Someone somewhere probably has all the rubbish history I gave this thing. I had specific dates and all of that but lost the doc files somewhere over the years.
